We start a new monthly video series — Magento News Digest — to stay abreast of everything that happens in Magento world.

September was a long and bumpy month for the eCommerce world. Learn what happened during the month in our video.

Here is a quick overview of everything that’s waiting for you inside.

The biggest Magento 1 hacker attack

Magento 1 merchants will remember September 2020 for a long time. This month was quite a challenging one when it came to security. Over a few days, over 4,5000 M1 stores were hacked and payment data of hundreds of thousands of customers was stolen. The real damage is yet to be investigated and estimated. A company specializing in skimming prevention Sansec identified and reported the hacker attack to the public.

Magento Security Scan Tool

Magento pays close attention to the security of its platform. In efforts to provide a safer environment for eCommerce business, the company released a new and more powerful version of Magento Security Scan Tool. Both M1 and M1 store owners can use the tools to check the security of their website, identify any threats and vulnerabilities, find out-of-date patches and much more.

Magento x Sansec partnership

Trying to make Security Scan Tool even more powerful in the future, Magento entered a partnership with Sansec. As a part of the agreement, Magento will get access to 9,000 malware and vulnerability signatures that will be added to Security Scan Tool. heir addition will make the tool even more powerful, especially for M1 stores.

Recognition from Gartner

For the fourth year in a row, Gartner named Magento a leader in Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce. Gartner praised Magento for actively growing the customer base thanks to a broad affiliate network, for a powerful set of features, and integration with the Adobe Commerce Cloud bundle.
